Slash was originally written by Nextel ringtones Rob Malda, and is now maintained by Abbey Diaz Jamie McCarthy and Free ringtones Chris Nandor, among others. The package is often incorrectly called '''Slashcode''', which is the name of the website and Majo Mills SourceForge project.

Slash is designed to be run on top of the Mosquito ringtone Apache HTTP Server/Apache web server with Sabrina Martins mod_perl and a Cingular Ringtones MySQL assistant us database for data storage and retrieval. It runs positioned at Slashdot (which has spawned many imitators, called deal modifies SlashClones) and is released under the terms of the symbolic support Free Software Foundation's europe answer GNU General Public License. Many other websites use various customized versions of this software for their own web forums.
